5th at World Championships

Hi!
It's been a long time since I updated my blog. Not much kiting in the winter in the Netherlnds this year because of snow, ice and no wind.
BUT
I had a great trip with Ruud and Rolf (Freerideteam) in Costa Rica! Strong wind, awesome waves... unfortunately not at the same time ;-) Beautiful country and a nice temperature. I really enjoyed the nature over there, the friendly people and the water. It was a nice adventure.
AND
last week were the world championships course racing! Getting there was sooo difficult. Because of the vulcano eruption in Iceland, my flight on saturday was cancelled. So the waiting started. On monday they garanteed me there was NO possibility at all to get a flight before thursday, because they needed to get organized first. That's to late for me!!
After a lot of phone calls, emails etc they called me on monday evening that I was on the list for tuesday. It would be survival of the fittest to get in the plane. Long queues for the ticket desk. But I managed to get the flight!
So that was just in time for the competition which started on thursday. I had a hard time the first day with strong wind and a lot of chop. The first 2 races went well (3rd and 4th, even after a tangle of kites at the starting line!), but then I had concentration problems. I couldn't stay focussed, probably because of my jetlag, and crashed a lot ( so 4 x 5th).
The next day started even worth with my kite down at the starting line and no chance at all to get it up in the really light wind. But the next 3 races went really really well with a 2nd place and 2 x third. Unfortunately I found out in the evening that my 2nd place was gone, because I started over early and got disqualified for that race. Shame! But still, I had a very good race and that gave me a really good feeling for the next races.
The last 2 days we had no wind, so we chilled on the beach. So, the end result is 5th for me. My friend Kari Schibevag did very very well (she was surprised herself ;-) and won the Worlds! Congrats girls.

I'm reallty motivated to do a lot of racing the next months. So I'll keep you updated.
