Pizza, wine and racing

24/07/2011 11:17

The difference with Germany last week can't be bigger. First of all the wind. During the 4 days of competition we haven't much wind. Perfect for racing though, but nothing compared to the storm we had in Sylt. No 3 meter waves in Lamezia, just some chop. The temperature is way better. In Germany I had to wear a winter jacket and my head. In Italy it's board short and bikini weather.

And the accommodation.... In Sylt we had a super nice appartement, really nice decorated et cetera. Perfect! For Italy I made a reservation for a mobile home at a local camping. No pictures on the website, so no idea what to expect. I said to Rolf and Annemiek it couldn't be worse then the caravan we had in our backyard to play in when I'm was a child. Well... let me just say that we didn't expect this at all!
As you can see above the caravan was really old and shabby ;-) But actually we had a perfect time in there and really enjoyed it.

We also enjoyed the Italian food (Pizza!! Oh my god, there are so good here) Italian wine (we didn't drink the last few weeks, malt beer only, but we couldn't resist the wine) and ice cream! It felt that this trip was more about the food then the racing...

But of course we raced as well. I won all 11 races, so I was really happy. One race I even started 3 minutes late (because I dropped my kite just before the start) and still I was able to overtake the other girls and finish first. That was a really cool race for me.

Rolf had some really good races (one he became 2nd!) but other races he had to deal with the plastic in the water. There was so much trash in the water, that you often fell off your board because you had plastic on your fins. For Rolf that meant that in some good races he ended up 6 or 7 because at the last bit of the race he had a fight with plastic. Bummer. But still a 4th place is nice!
Bram was really happy with his Woody Cookie and ended up 21th.
